Soon to be new a4 b5 quattro owner.

Hey guys, im still on my learners however i'll getting my P's in a few months, im thinking about getting an a4 b5 , i live in Victoria so i can't touch the engine or have a turbo, i found a a4 b5 2.8l Quattro 30V, Dark Blue metallic, 127,000kms, Rego till september, with new tyres & timing belt & he's asking $7,000 for it, so i thought it would smart to put a deposit on it, I've heard however engine problems are headaches & costly with these cars so i decided to go get it checked out next week some time, i had a look at the car a few days ago & all electrical works & everything looks fine. However the car has a few lil scratches, & the leather looks quiet tired,

Does anyone how much it would possibly cost to get the leather replaced or possibly fixed?
& What your thoughts/opinions in the car?

Future modifications include:
- 19" A8 wheels
- Lowering (Super-lows or Ultra-lows)
- Remus cat-back exhaust
- Window tint

Re: Soon to be new a4 b5 quattro owner.

Welcome to the forum Pyfin!
Congrats on the impending purchase, I bet you're excited?!!

The leather would most likely be an expensive replacement exercise, however there are a few leather cleaning / rejuvenation products out there which do a really good job - hard to say though without knowing the current condition. If it's not too bad though, i'd say it'd clean up nicely.

Are you planning on servicing it at the dealer (could be expensive) or a euro specialist (probably a better bet)? Also running costs might be a factor, i'm not sure how many k's the 2.8 does to a tank.

7k seems like a reasonable asking price, if everything is in good nick. You could get it looked over at a euro garage, and get their opinion perhaps - if the current owner is open to that.

Someone else more familiar with the older models might be able to chime in with their thoughts too :)

Good luck!
Kai

P.S. I'm not quite sure of Victorian insurance/road laws, but the larger wheels and lowering could be frowned upon - just check first, in case.

Here's a list of possible mods for your car on Fourtitude:

Re: Soon to be new a4 b5 quattro owner.

Cheers for the response! I'm definetly excited on purchasing my first car, however i dont want my eagerness to affect the quality of the car,I dont want to attract too much attention to the coppers but i thought coz its a european car i might get away with it, i dont think the scratches will be a problem as my brother works at a panel shop, but im definetly considering on giving the leather a good clean up, I havn't yet decided how to service my car but i've heard if you regularly maintain the engine there usually arnt any problems. Owner was also telling me that on his last dealer service he forked out $4000 for the wheels & timing belt... This sunday i'm picking up the car to take to American motors to check for any possible problems with the car, & fingers crossed if all goes well i'll post up some pics!!

Welcome pyfin, as long as the car isn't red you won't attract attention ;)

If the car is still being serviced at the dealer it sounds like the owner takes care of it (fairly) well. :kissmyrings:

But why are you taking a euro car to somewhere called American Motors?
We have quite a few euro garages in Melb, depending on where you are..
